Make The Most Of It

On my way to work this morning, I found myself stuck in the traffic longer than the usual. Cars are barely moving and I am getting tired of switching my foot between the gas and the brake pedals.

The bay area in California is known for its beautiful weather, relaxed atmosphere, and diverse culture. But like any other major cities, it is also known for its dreadful traffic conditions in the morning and the evening. A 25 miles drive from home to work takes me 40-45 minutes on average. Today, however, took me an exhausting 1 hour and 15 minutes.

When I finally arrived at work, I spoke to my friend who told me that there was a fatal accident on the freeway today, which caused the bumper to bumper traffic. He said a man in a motorcycle died of an accident and when I asked how he knew this, he said he drove by the scene and there he saw a covered body.

I felt a sudden sense of loss upon hearing this. Perhaps it is a sense of loss for the people who will never again see this man in this world. It reminded me once again how it can all be snatched away from us in the blink of an eye.

I find myself thinking, I wonder if this man died with his heart still with him? Or, has he left it behind to the people in his life? I wonder if he was able to say I love you to those he dearly loved. And if those who loved him was able to say and show how they love him. I wonder if there are people out there who wish they took more time to spend with him instead of just saying they love him.

I do not know this man and will never do. But his death sure gave me the opportunity to reflect on the uncertainty of our time in this world. That while we still have time, we should spend it sharing our life to the people we love. Not tomorrow, but today. Not later, but NOW. For tomorrow and later may never come.

Everyday we hear people die. It is on the news. It is on the paper. It is on the internet. We hear it everywhere. Next time you hear one, remind yourself how precious your life and time is. Know that we are not immortal and love those in your life who are still here. For you just never know my friend, you just never know.
